Software Developers

Software development is a key ingredient to innovation in many other industries and through the Internet, offers Namibians an opportunity to provide services beyond Namibia via PC or mobile devices. There is a lot of potential – just see the success of MXit mobile chat which was founded by a Namibian!

NBIC supports software developers through a range of programmes including

Public Talks

NBIC invites software experts and entrepreneurs to share their experience with the developer community in Namibia and the interested public covering technical topics, software business and the impact on society.

Software Development Training

NBIC workshops and trainings to enable developers in Namibia to utilize the latest technologies and tools – especially on open source software and open mobile platforms.

Developer Community

The mobile developer base in Namibia is very small and there are currently no strong communities for facilitating growth in this area. Other African countries have seen massive growth in entrepreneurship through mobile tech start-ups and Namibia has the potential for joining this wave if we can reach a critical mass of active developers and bring them together in a vibrant developer community.

The Developer Circle is a peer-to-peer developer group which meets every Tuesday 16:00  at NBIC. We meet when classes are in session – check our events calendar. We welcome newcomers! Bring your laptop, your project and any questions you have to move ahead!

InnoLab

Need some space with Internet to work? Take your laptop and come work in the InnoLab (N$50/day) or our Lapa (and soon Cafe – free). You need to be a registered member of the Developer Circle to participate.

Tech Incubator

Need office space for a longer period? You can join the NBIC Incubator if you have a business and participate in the Entrepreneurship Programmes – find more information here.

We are also preparing a rapid incubation model based on the highly successful approach of Techstars in the US.
